My First Traumatic Haircut

We took Brody to get his first haircut.  Greg had been trying to get me to take him for awhile, but I just wasn't ready to get that precious baby hair cut.  Then he developed a bit of a mullet and I decided it was time.  It started off with Brody playing sweetly in the waiting area.  This lasted about .5 seconds and then he was ready to go.  SO, he was basically already over this place by the time they called his name.  They gave him a sucker which basically just got blue drool all over his face since he wasn't really eating it.  And let him watch a movie while Greg blew bubbles for him.  A child's dream come true, right?  Well, not if your name is Brody Kraus.  Again, he did ok for about .5 seconds and then crying, nearly falling out of the chair and scaring the lady cutting his hair half to death ensued.  He cried off and on the whole time and cried even after we left for several minutes.  It.was.not.pleasant.  But we managed to get through it.  Greg joked that since he went to his first haircut he doesn't need to go again.  However, I think it should be a father-son bonding time.  Either way, I'm praying his hair grows really slow!

Playing sweetly.

Doing good for all of one minute.

Saddest sad face ever.  Notice the blue mouth.

Stopped crying to check out the comb in his face.

He did like ringing the bell on his "fire truck" but then cried again.

Notice the spike the lady gave him!  This was several minutes after we left and he was still crying!

15 Months

Brody is 15 months old!  I would say his personality has been emerging, but has now emerged!  This kid is getting so big.  He is so sweet and becoming very independent or so he thinks.  Yet he is a total mamma's boy.  I know it's only going to last for so long, so I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.  I feel Brody can do a lot of things.  Greg says we're training him like a dog.  I guess I figure that's ok as long as he's an obedient dog.  Some of the things Brody is doing, I feel like he's been doing for awhile, but I want to makes sure I get it down that he was doing them by 15 months.

  • Signs:  dog, cat, please, more, baby, fish, want, eat, milk, airplane, car, ball and will sign them in context if I say them or if he sees something
  • points to his eyes, ears, nose, hair, head, feet, belly button when we ask
  • will close a door if I ask him to
  • will smile really big if I say "cheese"
  • will make a frown face when we ask for a mad/sad face
  • turns the pages of books with both fingers like a little adult
  • will bring me books to read and sit in my lap
  • when he wants me to read it again he takes it out of my hand and then gives it back to me
  • is very helpful with getting dressed (most of the time)
  • is usually pretty responsive to the "n" word (NO) and will point to what he's not supposed to touch
  • likes a lot of food and is a good eater
  • waves "hi" and "bye" and is very friendly and will wave at strangers (especially other little kids)
  • blows kisses and says "mough" like a smooch
  • gives real kisses (the very wet and slobbery open mouth kind that will melt a mamma's heart)
  • will run up to me and hug my legs
  • likes to walk on my feet
  • when you ask him how big he is, he'll put his hands up over his head like "so big"
  • says Dada, mama and bye bye, but mostly talks in his own little gibberish language
  • points a lot
  • loves crawling back and forth on the couch
  • gives high fives
  • blows on his food to cool it off
  • he likes to "get loose" and will move his arms around like stretching (which he's seen daddy do)
  • will still do "holding" and "false start" and thinks it's funny
  • got his one year molars

Remotes are the best!

Brody loves to look out the windows when Daddy is outside mowing the grass.

And sweet Daddy makes silly faces at us through the window.

Brody LOVES my baking cabinet.

Watching a little football after church.

We loved getting a package from Nana.

And moving around the chairs in the dining room became a great
source of entertainment.

Brody loves going for walks.

We arrived a little early for an appointment, so I let Brody
loose in the car.

Brody loves the park, but not the sun in his eyes.

My silly boy!

Holding On the Offense

Our little man was a referee for Halloween.  I was trying to think of something easy, homemade and mostly re-usable for his costume since I knew he wasn't going to be in it for very long.  I'm not that crafty, but I turned to pinterest for some inspiration.  I found a couple cute ideas and thought I had settled on one (hopefully, I'll be able to use it later in his life) but then Brody found one of Daddy's old coaching whistles.  Greg showed him how to use it and Brody thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.  I had a stroke of genius (or so I thought) and said Brody should be a coach, but then Greg suggested a referee.  I thought that might be a bit more recognizable and easy to create.  Thus, our little Halloween costume came to be.  He looked so cute in the hat, but of course wasn't really interested in wearing that, but that's ok.  One of the pictures was from our playgroup Halloween party.  By the time we took that picture, Brody was pretty much leaping off the couch because he was hungry, tired and over it.  The other pictures were from Halloween.  We ate dinner at Granna and Grandad's house and then went trick or treating with Jordan while G&G passed out candy.  Brody walked between a quarter of a mile and a half a mile while we trick or treated and he loved it.  The walking part that is.  He didn't really love trick or treating.  People would hold out the bowl of candy and he would grab a piece in each hand and hold on to it for dear life.  He didn't really get the concept of putting it in his pail.  So, he wasn't really happy with us when we took the candy out of his hand in order for him to be able to get candy at the next house.  We went to sever house and Brody ended up with very little candy.  That was a good thing because it meant less for mommy to eat!  No, Brody didn't eat any of his candy.  Although, I don't know if he would like it anyway.  He doesn't seem to be a huge sweets eater (yet anyway).  Since Brody was a referee we taught him hold to do "holding" and "false start".  His holding was actually pretty darn close to the real deal.  The false start was close, but basically looked like he was shaking his first in the air.  It was still totally adorable of course!

Our Sweet Pumpkin

My sister and my precious and crazy nieces came for a visit during October.  Marc had a business trip over the weekend, so was not able to join in the fun, but we still had a good time.  We took the kiddos to a local farm about 15 minutes from our house called Blessington Farms.  It was so cute!  The little people had a great time and I'm not even going to lie...I had a great time too!  Minus the heat.  There should never be sweat when going to a pumpkin farm, but alas we live in Texas and that's just the way the cookie crumbles down here.  Anyway, we had a great time!  There were HUGE slides and a GIANT sand pit.  We lost Kennedy to the sand pit (this is her current one true love), so Sarah stayed and watched her while Greg, Maren, Brody and I explored the rest of what the farm had to offer.  Aside from what you see pictured, we also got to do a hay maze which Brody loved (and me too) and a barrel train ride.  You'll be able to tell from the pictures that Brody loved where you could go see and even pet chickens!
